The EC is hosting an online workshop on affordable housing on September 14

Online

14.09.2026 (09:00) - 14.09.2026

The European Commission, through its Housing Task Force—which focuses on coordinating and supporting the EU’s work on housing—together with Housing Europe, the European Federation of Public, Cooperative, and Social Housing, which serves as a platform for bringing together stakeholders in the sector, will hold a new Municipal Housing Thematic Workshop on September 14.

This event is part of the new framework for dialogue promoted through the European Housing Alliance. It aims to foster the exchange of experiences, projects, best practices, and public policies for the development of affordable housing across the continent. It will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Albert Borschette Conference Center in Brussels and will feature a hybrid format, allowing for both in-person and online participation.

It will bring together representatives from local and national authorities, housing associations, and European institutions. The sessions will be structured around three priority themes. The first will focus on social acceptance and tenant participation, with special attention to mechanisms that foster community involvement in housing policies and projects.

The second will address public-private partnerships, analyzing approaches that strengthen collaboration between public administrations and other stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of affordable housing projects. Finally, the third area will focus on long-term housing management models and resilience to climate change, with the aim of identifying approaches that help ensure the sustainability and viability of residential projects.

The program will feature case studies from Spain, as well as from Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy, and Croatia, which will serve as a basis for exchanging proposals and analyzing tools applied in various national and local contexts. Furthermore, all of this will serve a common purpose: the progressive implementation of the European Affordable Housing Plan at the local level.

Anyone interested in attending online can register for free at this link, preferably before September 9.
