Have your say on the new European Affordable Housing Act

The European Commission invites citizens, public authorities, entrepreneurs, members of associations, architecture professionals, and other key social actors to share their views on how to protect and promote affordable housing in a new consultation open until April 3.

On the occasion of the new European Affordable Housing Plan, which highlights the concern across the continent about the housing crisis, this call for evidence has been launched to understand the circumstances of this serious problem from all possible perspectives, so that the European Affordable Housing Act can respond to these considerations and needs.

This legislative initiative responds to several objectives, including helping to identify when an area can be considered to be in a situation of real estate stress, providing legal certainty on the justified and proportionate measures that authorities can take to temporarily protect real estate markets, and identifying long-term solutions to increase the supply of housing.

In this regard, this consultation will help the EC assess the impact of the measures already proposed and whether they can add value and pave the way for achieving these goals. This co-creation process is also in line with the principles of the New European Bauhaus initiative.

Some comments in English from international organizations are already available on the call’s website, although opinions can also be submitted anonymously. More information on the new European Affordable Housing Plan is available at this link.
