Public consultation: Guidance for climate resilience in Europe

The European Commission has launched a new public consultation aimed at citizens, businesses, regional public authorities, and the entire interested community to help define the guidelines for future European climate resilience policy. This is an opportunity to participate and help shape how Europe prepares for and responds to the challenges of climate change and the green transition.

The continent is already suffering the growing effects of extreme weather events, such as heat waves and floods, which have significant impacts on health, well-being, infrastructure, and the economy. All of these factors motivate the need to redesign cities, towns, and rural environments to adapt to a climate with new characteristics, actions aligned with the principles and values of the New European Bauhaus initiative.

In this regard, the new European Climate Resilience Framework, scheduled for adoption at the end of 2026, will follow on from the EC Communication on climate risk management (EU Climate Risk Management Communication) of March 12, 2024. It will also complement the European Green Deal. The document aims to strengthen coordinated EU action to anticipate risks, protect people’s well-being, improve preparedness at all levels of society, and promote climate-resilient technologies, products, and services.

The public consultation, issued by the European institution’s Directorate-General for Climate Action, allows you to contribute ideas, comments, and proposals to guide the European Union’s upcoming legislation on climate adaptation via this link. The participation period will be open until February 23, 2026. Give your opinion, share your feedback, and help shape a resilient and inclusive future for Europe!
