Fundación para el Conocimiento madri+d is an initiative of the Regional Government of Madrid created in 2002. Its main objectives are to contribute to make the quality of higher education, science, technology and innovation key elements of the competitiveness and well-being of citizens. Among its medium-term objectives is the strengthening and dynamization of the region innovation ecosystem and the move from a model of scientific culture policies focused on dissemination to another oriented towards citizen science and innovation, in which citizens play an active role. In this context Fundación para el Conocimiento madri+d develops the project Network of Citizen Laboratories as a contribution to the New European Bauhaus. This program aims to encourage citizen innovation in the region through the launch of citizen laboratories in universities, research and innovation centers and any other interested organization. This regional network aims to become a pilot project for other european regions and intends to work with other European institutions and regions from the beginning. Between the months of March and December 2021 the network of citizen laboratories of the Community of Madrid will be designed and will begin to be built. For this, within the framework of the project, a training program, public activities, information sessions and advice will be carried out for entities interested in activating and collaborating in citizen innovation processes. At the same time there will be activities involving other EU countries. This initiative is supported by the Distributed Citizen Laboratories program. Citizen innovation in libraries and other institutions, promoted by the Ministry of Culture and Medialab Prado (Madrid City Council), and in which madri+d participates as a collaborating entity. The project started in 2020 to face the social challenges derived from the COVID-19 pandemic.
