Bioma center.

Creator: Universidad de Navarra.

Location: Pamplona (España).

It is a new space to promote student training, multidisciplinary and applied research at the Institute of Biodiversity and the Environment, and scientific dissemination, through a pioneering program of activities and an exhibition of the Science Museum’s collection.

The Biodiversity and Environment Institute was created in December 2019, driven by the need to have a multidisciplinary center to respond, based on scientific evidence, to the main environmental challenges facing our planet, such as climate change, the loss of biodiversity, pollution, deforestation, soil degradation, or invasive exotic species.

In addition to interdisciplinarity, another aspect of great importance for the Institute is environmental education and citizen awareness as a preliminary step towards a change in behavior in favor of a future that is more respectful of our environment. In this task, closely linked to the Science Museum, various communication actions and citizen science projects are carried out aimed at guaranteeing the education of citizens towards a more sustainable future.

Finally, a third pillar of the new Institute is to establish itself as a meeting point between the academic world, administrations, companies and society, promoting environmental awareness at different scales and helping our Community to become a benchmark in the study and conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity.

BIOMA is currently made up of 60 specialists from different research areas, a number that will gradually increase with the incorporation of new professionals from the environmental field. This new challenge fills us with hope and we are going to do everything on our part to humbly contribute to preserving the most precious gift we possess, life.
