Kopli Community Courtyard.

Winner of the 1st NEB 2025 Rising Stars Award in the category ‘Recovering a sense of belonging’.

The project is located in Tallinn (Estonia) and has transformed the courtyard of an old abandoned community centre into a 415 m² public space, almost entirely regenerated with recycled materials. Its main objective was to revitalise a deteriorated urban area, providing an inclusive cultural and leisure space for young families and non-Estonian-speaking residents in an area undergoing rapid gentrification.

It exemplifies innovative models of governance, citizen participation and material circularity. Thus, this intervention not only solved a local problem of lack of accessible public spaces, but also set a legal and methodological precedent for public procurement of works using reused materials, making it a replicable example for other urban contexts.
