(Un)healthy spaces.
This project at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana set out to transform abandoned outdoor spaces overheated by car use into restorative, people-centred environments that improve healing and overall well-being. With more than 8,500 employees and thousands of patients, visitors and family members using the campus every day, the need for accessible, green spaces is essential.
To address this situation, they involved more than 500 users through co-design workshops, surveys, interviews, planning stands, behaviour mapping and walks with visually impaired people. Their ideas revealed urgent needs that have been or will soon be implemented, including additional seating, comfortable waiting areas, better orientation and access to nature.
