Next Wednesday, May 27, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., an online presentation session will be held for the new laboratory of the New European Bauhaus initiative, which focuses on work related to the oceans, coastlines, and island communities.
Better known as the NEB Ocean Lab, this initiative aims to become an incubator for ideas and action on a European scale. It was created with the goal of bringing together artists, scientists, investors, philanthropists, and policymakers around a shared vision: harnessing art and culture as drivers of social and environmental transformation.
It draws inspiration from the legacy of the flagship Bauhaus of the Seas Sails demonstration project and aims to contribute to the implementation of the European Ocean Observation Initiative (EOOI). This new laboratory, part of the New Bauhaus initiative, seeks to strengthen the social dimension of ocean policies through participatory and cultural approaches linked to ocean literacy.
The initiative is coordinated by three founding partners:
- The TBA21-Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary Foundation, based in Madrid, an international leader in contemporary art and ocean conservation;
- The Interactive Technologies Institute at the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon, specializing in digital research and innovation;
- The City Council of Oeiras, also in Portugal, with extensive experience in local governance and engagement with coastal communities.
Registration for the pitching session is free and will remain open until Tuesday, May 26, at 5:00 p.m. You can find more information at this link. This is an opportunity to learn about an innovative proposal in detail, as well as the ways in which you can participate in its future research, activities, and events.
Additionally, during the NEB Festival 2026 in Brussels, the lab will also hold a public presentation. It is scheduled for June 10. Check out the full program, as well as the scheduled satellite events, here.
